Please Verify Your Date of Birth to Continue

Recently on both my personal laptop and on my smartphone Skype demanded my date of birth which I had never given them previously.

I decline to furnish this information.  Is there anything I can do to keep using the product which I am otherwise very happy with. It still works on my work computer and my dob is not in that profile and it uses the same handle.

Hi Goldsand,

Please be advised that asking your correct date of birth is a new feature to avoid categorizing your account as a child account.

If the system will detect your age is below 13 years of age, you will be asked for a parental permission.

It is a part of the migration of Skype and Microsoft and with that being said, we already adapted their terms and conditions.

Is there any work around.  I decline to furnish my DOB.  I was asked both on my smartphone

and my laptop and I will delete skype from both if there is no work around. I do laud Microsoft for

keeping an eye on the kids though but my DOB is sitting in enough places.

I have already switched to WhatsApp on the phone.

Skype still works without DOB on university computer.

I am logging in this morning, and suddenly Skype is asking for my Date of Birth - I don't want to enter this information in - why do I need to? I don't want everyone knowing when my birthday is. Please advise....

The reason why the system is prompting you to confirm the year and the date of birth is because Skype's websites and software are not intended for or designed to attract users under the age of 13. Our security measures are based on the date of birth provided by the end user when creating a profile or upon the update of the account profile, so it is very important to enter the correct information.

Thank you for your reply. For my own Data Protection will my date of birth be available for everyone else to see? I want to kerp it private.

Also, there is no security check, what is there to stop people from just entering a fake date?

The questionnaire asking for your birth date is only for security purpose, and data entered in this questionnaire will not alter your account settings.

If you have never entered your birth date in your account profile, the birth date will not be displayed to anyone viewing your profile.

Recently I have also received such questionnaire for one of my accounts, and I have provided the right birth date. This has changed nothing in the Profile settings for this account. The birth date is still blank and not displayed to anyone.

Would I have entered a date indicating that I'm a child (< 13 years), then my account would have been locked until I would have been able to prove that I'm not a child.

I am currently helping my auntie set up her Skype on her new tablet (she is in her 70's). It ask for her date of birth I have put this information in and pressed next and nothing happens. It just goes back to highlighting the day on the date of birth and does not continue to the next step it also does not give any error message. The tablet is an Amazon Fire.

I'm trying to get on to Skype on.my tablet and it's asking for my date of birth.  I'm putting it in.but when I press 'next ' it just goes back to the date??

It's not asked me this before. Why can't it move on?
